1. Trying to understand the Oracle Reference Architecture for Information Management

Daan Bakboord refers to a presentation by Andrew Bond and Stewart Bryson at the Rittman Mead Forum last month.  The presentation about Oracle Information Management Reference Architecture caused some further investigation on his part. This blog post is a first summary of the information he found online so far.

2. Oracle BI Mobile App Designer Release 2

Alex Hansal took the new BIMAD for a test drive then blogged about it! He finishes his post by saying, “As fellow blogger Christian Screen put it eloquently: “BI got MAD and you should be happy.” The latest release of BIMAD provides a welcome round of enhancements and new features. So don’t get MAD, get BIMAD ;-).”

3. Exploring OBIEE Collaborative BI – Webinar – June 20, 2014 (2pm EST)

Christian Screen says, “If you’ve thought about commenting on OBIEE dashboards or believe that users need a way to tell the story about their data, you are not alone. We’re putting on the first webinar discussing Collaborative BI in Oracle Business Intelligence this Friday June 20th at 2pm EST. We’d like you to sign up for the webinar and attend here,

4. A very helpful OBIEE Cache Purge/Seed utility – download it for free here!!!

Shiva Molabanti  has made a tool and is making it available for free! He says, “This is completely free for you for the benefit of OBIEE Community…. Using this, you can simply Purge or seed the OBIEE Server Cache remotely. Yes, you don’t need to login to OBIEE server or Application. You can simply do that from your own system. ”

5. The Efficient Analyst (part three): No more waiting

In part 3 of this series, Jeff Quigley reviews the causes of analyst wait time and offers suggestions on how to fix it.

6. Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Symposiums at the smokin’ ODTUG Kscope14

Cameron Lackpour says, “If you are at ODTUG Kscope14, I daresay you’ll be at the Sunday Symposiums, where we get to hear, direct from Oracle, where the products we use are going.  If the past is prologue to the future, I can say that what gets announced on Sunday is the early jump on what Oracle will be announcing at Oracle Open World. That’s pretty cool – Oracle use Kscope as the preview venue, not their own conference.  We are insanely lucky.”

Eric Helmer shares an infographic from here:

1. It’s The End Of The Blog As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)

Kevin McGinley writes his last blog post on Oracle Analytics, due to him starting a new company with Stewart Bryson (Red Pill Analytics).  Well done and Congratulations! Any future blog posts from Kevin will be posted here.

2. Introducing Red Pill Analytics

Kevin McGinley and Stewart Bryson announce the launch of Red Pill Analytics, a new analytics services company focused on Oracle business intelligence and data integration solutions. Take a read here for more information.

Stewart says, “We think we have a compelling story to tell… a story about real innovation and services that deliver value above all else. This story needed a metaphor… one that embodies the choice we all have when confronted with brand new approaches in the marketplace. In the end, we couldn’t find a better metaphor than the Red Pill from The Matrix.”

3. OUGF Harmony 2014, #OUGF14

Kent says, “Several highlights for me were meeting and speaking with one of the pioneers of relational theory, CJ Date, and getting to see my good friend Dan Linstedt in action talking about Big Data and Data Vault 2.0.”

He then links to HelifromFinland’s post.

4. Deep Dive Thursday at Kscope14

Cameron Lackpour continues with the highlights of KScope – looking forward to what is to come on the ‘Deep Dive Thursday’. There are NINE different Deep Dives happening at the same time.

1.Application Express

2. ADF and fusion Development

3. Developer’s Toolkit and the Database

4. Business Intelligence

5. Essbase

6. Planning

7. Financial Close

8. EPM Foundations

9. Reporting

He ends this blog by saying, “As always, Kscope suffers from too much good content all at the same time.  What a conference, what a problem to have. Thursday’s Deep Dives continue that tradition and I know you will all be there for what promises to be a very interesting and innovative series of events.  If I wasn’t moderating, I would be flitting from room to room, trying to get all of the geeky wisdom I could into my brain.  You might just be able to do that.”

5. OBIEE Mobile App Designer Release 2

Read more here.

6. Solving OBIEE Issues

Gerd refers back to a previous post, OBIEE Client Success and Typical Issues and says, “There are just ten working days left until planned application launch – that’s a challenge that we accept with pleasure! We recommended the following steps:

  • Create a logical OBIEE model using the current data warehouse objects.
  • Only substitute data warehouse tables if absolutely necessary.
  • Identify and define an optimized target model balancing OBIEE and data warehouse.
  • Implement interim solutions if necessary to succeed on upcoming milestone.
  • Plan, design and implement a state of the art OBIEE solution after first rollout.”

7. OUG Finland (Harmony) 2014

Brendan blogs about the local Tar ice-cream, the conference, camping and meeting Chris Date.

He concludes, “This was a great conference that had attendees (not just speakers) from a number of countries across Europe. I enjoyed the conference and getting to meet some old and new friends. Hopefully next year I will be able to fit OUG Finland into my calendar and so should you.”

1. Planning 11.1.2.3.500 and Smart View

John Goodwin says that he was going to write this blog when PSU 11.1.2.3.500 was released but totally forgot. However, recently he has heard about this issue a couple of times so thought he might as well post it in case it happens to anybody else.

He concludes his post, “So the simple solution is if patching planning to 11.1.2.3.500 then make sure you are on Smart View 11.1.2.5.200+ which should be easy to implement if you have a small user community though more of a challenge if you have a large user base which deploys Smart View by package management.”

2. BI Apps 11.1.1.8.1Configuration Manager freezing

Paul Cannon says, “After installing BI Apps 11.1.1.8.1 I had an issue with the Application Configuration Manager application freezing. I was able to setup Load Plans, start generations and executions, but often when refreshing the page to see the current status the browser would just hang and eventually time out.”

He then gives us the code to fix this problem.

3. The Efficient Analyst (part one): Stop moving your data around!

Jeff Quigley goes through five ways to reduce data movement and put the focus back on sharing:

1. Stop emailing (IMing, Skyping) files back and forth

2. Eliminate “staging” files or sheets

3. Be careful with “movement automation”.

4. Create a sharing environment.

5. Google it

He says that the suggestions in this post are most effective when moving data between individuals using the same application.  He asks for readers to post suggestion to solve data sharing across applications.

4. Main Features of Teradata Database

Kashinathan goes through the features of Teradata , saying it is easy to administer, acts as a single data store and users include Walmart and AT&T.

5. About merging 2rpd in OBIEE – the only article that matters.

Bojie says that the confusing part is, how to determine original master rpd, Modified rpd, Current Rpd. He then goes through what he does to remember. He tells us to note that the merging of rpds can take a while. If one of the RPD is 20MB, the whole merging process can take up to 3 hours!

6. The sessions I want to attend at Kscope14

Cameron Lackpour is splitting this blog post into three as there is just so much to write!

  • This week – individual sessions
  • Next week – Thursday Deep Dives
  • Week of 15 June – Sunday Symposiums

Read this blog to find out which individual sessions he is hoping to attend.

7. Easy to develop and debug

Raqsoft BI OLAP says, “The step-by-step computing of esProc makes it easier to monitor the intermediate result, and debug the code. The development efficiency of esProc is therefore enhanced greatly.”
